„We don't love Jesus enough. If you get to church, you know He loves y'all, because you hear information technology all the fourth dimension. Only practice we dear Him? I know I don't tell Him enough. As part of my personal relationship with Jesus, when I get up in the morning, I tell Him, "I need y'all to know I love you." And, forgiveness the center and soul of the movie: forgiving at all costs. Information technology'southward hard for Christians, whether we're working in the picture concern, or living in the Third Reich, but that's why nosotros're Christian. Our Lord has told us to pray "… forgive the states our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us…" We may feel this is hard, but how nosotros feel has nothing to do with it. What is important is obedience; we must obey Christ's command. Is post-obit Christ's command like shooting fish in a barrel? No. But information technology is the way of the great."

„You know, you don't actually need me. All you need to do is read your own books."

—  P. L. Travers Australian-British novelist, actress and announcer 1899 - 1996

The Paris Review interview (1982)
Context: I've always been interested in the Mother Goddess. Not long ago, a immature person, whom I don't know very well, sent a message to a common friend that said: "I'thou an addict of Mary Poppins, and I want you to ask P. Fifty. Travers if Mary Poppins is non really the Mother Goddess." So, I sent back a bulletin: "Well, I've only recently come up to see that. She is either the Mother Goddess or one of her creatures — that is, if nosotros're going to look for mythological or fairy-tale origins of Mary Poppins."
I've spent years thinking almost it because the questions I've been asked, very perceptive questions by readers, have led me to examine what I wrote. The volume was entirely spontaneous and not invented, non thought out. I never said, "Well, I'll write a story about Mother Goddess and call it Mary Poppins." Information technology didn't happen like that. I cannot summon up inspiration; I myself am summoned.
Once, when I was in the United States, I went to see a psychologist. Information technology was during the war when I was feeling very cutting off. I thought, Well, these people in psychology always desire to see the kinds of things you've done, so I took as many of my books every bit were then written. I went and met the human, and he gave me another date. And at the next engagement the books were handed back to me with the words: "Yous know, you don't really demand me. All yous need to do is read your own books."
That was so interesting to me. I began to come across, thinking about information technology, that people who write spontaneously as I exercise, non with invention, never really read their own books to learn from them. And I ready myself to reading them. Every at present and then I establish myself saying, "But this is true. How did she know?" And then I realized that she is me. At present I tin say much more than nearly Mary Poppins because what was known to me in my blood and instincts has now come to the surface in my caput.

„Tin can you by humble organized religion look to Jesus and say: "My substitute, my refuge, ray shield; Thou fine art my stone, my trust; in Thee do I confide? "Then, beloved, to you I have nothing to say, except this: " Never be agape when yous see God'southward power; for now that you are forgiven and accepted, now that past faith you have fled to Christ for refuge, the ability of God demand no more terrify you than the shield and sword of the warrior demand terrify his wife and child.""

„Jesus recognized the need for blending opposites."

—  Martin Luther King, Jr. American clergyman, activist, and leader in the American Civil Rights Move 1929 - 1968

Source: 1960s, Strength to Beloved (1963), Ch. 1 : A tough listen and a tender heart
Context: Jesus recognized the need for blending opposites. He knew that his disciples would face a difficult and hostile world, where they would confront the recalcitrance of political officials and the intransigence of the protectors of the old order. He knew that they would meet cold and arrogant men whose hearts had been hardened by the long wintertime of traditionalism. … And he gave them a formula for action, "Be ye therefore equally wise as serpents, and harmless equally doves." … We must combine the toughness of the serpent with the softness of the dove, a tough mind and a tender center.
